A customer journey: better sleep, better support, and a surprisingly easy decision.
Our previous mattress was around six years old. Replacing it had sat on our “one day” list for far too long — until suddenly it became urgent. Thankfully, JKD Beds in Ayr were open, approachable, and genuinely helpful, allowing us to make the right decision without pressure.
This is our real journey to buying a king size mattress in Ayrshire, how it improved our sleep, and how we ended up saving money.
These photos show the difference between our old mattress and the new one — from edge support to overall shape.
We’d gradually started waking up closer and closer to the middle of the bed. Occasionally we’d say, “We should really think about a new mattress”, then carry on with life.
The turning point came when we stayed away from home for two nights. On the first night, my partner complained the hotel mattress felt too firm — then paused and said, “Wait a minute… this is lovely.”
The next morning was the real shock. He usually wakes with mild back pain (something he attributes to weekly sports training), but this time there was none. I slept better too.
When we returned home and got back into our own bed, we immediately realised we could no longer tolerate our mattress. Just like that, we were officially searching for a new one.
It’s a cliché, but it’s true: sometimes priorities slip. Maybe we hadn’t been “adulting” properly. Whatever the reason, we finally recognised how important a good mattress really is — and I was genuinely excited to start looking.
I Googled a few local options, but my partner had been recommended JKD Beds by a friend at work. We drove to the Ayr showroom at around 11am on a Saturday, planning to browse and possibly visit other shops afterwards.
That plan changed quickly.
We were met by Kevin, and within 15 minutes we’d already tried four different beds. He explained clearly how each mattress differed, why one felt firmer than another, and what would suit our needs best.
When I hesitated about actually lying down properly, Kevin made the experience relaxed and even fun — encouraging us both to get on the bed at the same time (briefly spooning included!) so we could feel how it worked as a couple.
He listened carefully to our situation and explained why a firmer, pocket-sprung mattress would help with support and back comfort.
Other customers came in looking for something completely different, and Kevin smoothly switched between helping them and giving us space — no pressure at all.
By this point, we knew we wanted a pocket-sprung mattress with a memory foam layer. The final decision came down to firmness and comfort.
We narrowed it down to two mattresses and went back and forth at least five times. After a quick Google search, I realised we were saving several hundred pounds compared to similar mattresses elsewhere in Ayr — with the added confidence of having tested it properly.
That made the decision easy.
Unfortunately, our chosen mattress wasn’t in stock that day, and we were told delivery would be 7–10 days. Six days later, my partner received a call confirming afternoon delivery.
The delivery team carefully carried the mattress upstairs for us, which was a massive help and very much appreciated 🙏
Three months on, we’re still incredibly happy — not just with the mattress quality, but with the entire buying experience at JKD Beds in Ayr.
Overall, we couldn’t be happier. We made the right decision — not just in choosing the right mattress, but in choosing JKD Beds in Ayr and having Kevin guide us through the process.
If you’re thinking about buying a mattress in Ayr or Ayrshire, we’d highly recommend visiting the showroom and taking the time to get proper advice. It genuinely makes all the difference!
Trying before you buy from a range of about 30 mattress types and variations, really helps narrow down a sometimes daunting, and important decision.
